don't know what it is about pebbles, but gadget designers are fascinated with them. I mean, just look at Bang & Olufsen's Serenata phone, Creative's ZEN Stone and of course, Motorola's PEBL phone, which is still a very popular choice out there. Samsung is now joining the pebble-shaped gadget club with its upcoming S2 'Pebble' MP3 player.
Maybe it's the smoothness of the rocks or the perhaps the size that has inspired yet another tiny media player that fits in your hand or your back pocket. The ultra-compact S2 will soon be available with a 1GB storage capacity able to store up to 16 hours of your favorite MP3s or WMAs. As you can see from the pictures, the S2 will be available in black, red, green, purple and white.
The front of the player is smooth as expected, while the back has all the controls including play/pause, volume, playback options, and DNSe 2.0 audio enhancements. To add some funk, the bottom of the player flashes in different colors and patterns based on EQ settings and playback mode. What's also really cool is that the player has an FM tuner, and lanyard earphones so you can hang it around your neck. Pricing will be under $40, and Samsung has said the player will be in stores come June. Engadget has an extensive gallery of the S2 player here, if you want to check it out.
